2025 Theme

Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity

We invite seafarers from across the globe to submit their photographs and share their vision of “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity.”

Vision

The Mission to Seafarers Newcastle is proud to launch the 2025 International Seafarers Photo Contest, providing seafarers around the world with an opportunity to showcase their unique perspectives of life at sea. This year, we align with the World Maritime Day theme: “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity”, emphasising the shared responsibility we all have in protecting and sustaining the marine environment.

This competition highlights the vital role of seafarers and their firsthand connection to the ocean. It serves as a platform for creative expression while reinforcing the Mission’s commitment to environmental advocacy and Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water. Through the lens of seafarers, we seek to capture moments that reflect the ocean’s beauty, its challenges, and the opportunities for its preservation.

Finalists’ photographs will be showcased as part of the Newcastle Maritime Art Prize 2025, with winning and selected works exhibited in both digital and physical formats. By participating, seafarers contribute to a growing visual narrative that fosters awareness and appreciation of the maritime world.
